These terms explain the rules for CatRealm Central and how independently operated Realms fit into the service.
Effective October 17, 2026.
1. What these terms cover
These terms are for CatRealm Central: the shared account, authentication, direct-message, friend, notification, and sync services, together with the official CatRealm apps when they connect to Central. The Privacy Policy explains Central's data practices.
CatRealm software can also connect to independently operated Realms. Section 6 explains how those Realms differ from Central. Open-source code and third-party services may have their own licenses or terms.
2. Central account eligibility
Central accounts are for adults age 18 or older. You must also be able to enter an agreement under the law that applies to you. Do not create a Central account for someone under 18 or allow someone under 18 to use your Central account.
Access to a device, an internet connection, or an app-store download does not establish a person's age or permission to use Central. CatRealm does not currently collect birthdates or independently verify age. If you believe an underage person is using Central, contact us privately through Section 10.
3. Your account
Keep your authentication codes, backup codes, passkeys, and sessions secure. You are responsible for activity through your account to the extent permitted by law. Tell us promptly through the contact method in Section 10 if you believe someone has accessed it without permission.
Central accounts are separate from local accounts created on a self-hosted Realm. A Realm operator controls its own local accounts. Using a Central account to join a Realm does not make that Realm part of Central.
4. Use of Central
Use Central lawfully and respect other users. Do not use Central to:
Exploit or endanger a child, distribute child sexual abuse material, threaten or harass someone, or share another person's private information without permission.
Commit fraud, impersonate someone, send spam or malware, or infringe another person's rights.
Access accounts or data without permission, interfere with Central's security or operation, or evade restrictions placed on your own access.
Reports may be reviewed using the information available to Central. We may take proportionate action within Central where technically available and permitted by law. A self-hosted Realm operator makes its own moderation decisions for content and conduct on that Realm.
5. Your content
You retain the rights you have in content you submit. You must have the rights needed to send or upload it. You permit Central to process, store, and transmit content handled by Central only as needed to provide and secure the features you use, subject to the Privacy Policy. This permission lasts only as long as needed to provide those features and handle deletion, security, backups, or legal obligations as described in that policy.
Content posted to a self-hosted Realm is stored and controlled by that Realm's operator, subject to the operator's own rules and retention practices. Central account deletion does not itself remove copies held by an independent Realm.
6. Decentralized Realms
Independent people or organizations can host CatRealm Realms. Each operator decides who may join, sets its own community rules, and controls its Realm's messages, files, moderation, logs, and backups. Ask that operator about its terms and privacy practices before joining. These Central terms do not replace the operator's rules or make the operator CatRealm's agent.
A Realm may accept local accounts, Central accounts, or both. Central's 18+ account rule applies to Central accounts; an independent Realm operator sets eligibility for its local accounts, subject to applicable law. If you sign in with a Central account, Central still handles the Central account and related Central services; the Realm operator handles data and activity on its Realm. If a Realm uses optional Central services such as push relay or media fallback, the Privacy Policy describes Central's role.
For a problem with Realm-hosted content or a local account, contact that Realm's operator. For a problem with a Central account, Central direct message, or other Central service, contact CatRealm through Section 10. Central cannot promise to remove material from an independently operated Realm or its backups.
7. Availability and changes to Central
Central is an evolving service. Features may change, be interrupted, or become unavailable. We will try to communicate material service changes through the site or app when practical. Nothing here removes rights or remedies you have under applicable law.
8. Privacy and reports
Read the Privacy Policy for what Central collects, how it uses data, and how to request access, correction, or deletion. A parent's device or internet-provider settings do not replace CatRealm's obligations under applicable privacy law.
Do not place a child's identifying details, account secrets, or sensitive evidence in a public GitHub issue. Use the private contact method in Section 10.
9. Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and give notice through the site or app. Changes apply prospectively, subject to applicable law.
10. Contact
For privacy requests and legal matters, email [email protected]. For child-safety or other safety reports, email [email protected]. Both addresses are private. For Realm-hosted matters, contact the independent Realm operator.
